When History Repeats, It Gets Louder
I learned about genocide from books,
from black-and-white photos
with captions that said “Never again.”But now I scroll past
children wrapped in hospital sheets
and see the same sentence
used as a defense
for why it’s happening again. And the worst part?
They know the killer.
They name him in private rooms.
But when the lights are on,
they say “both sides.”
If your heart aches with this, if you feel the weight of these words, there are ways to stand with those who suffer:

Thank you for opening your heart.
Thank you for refusing to be silent.
With hope and fire,
A Ikram
